The Batman executive producer Michael Uslan has revealed when the sequel, The Batman Part II, will begin filming in November. Taking to social media to share the news, Uslan shared a poster used for the first The Batman outing, alongside the caption "'The Batman, Part 2' commences production 11/23!"

Released just over a year ago, The Batman introduces audiences to an early version of The Dark Knight, with Bruce Wayne just two years into his career as a crime-fighter. The Batman finds the DC superhero venturing into Gotham City's underworld when a sadistic killer leaves behind a trail of cryptic clues. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans become clear, he must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis.

Directed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot/Penguin.

The Batman was met with rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike, and while there was some concern regarding whether a sequel would be greenlit amid the changes at DC Studios, The Batman Part II has now been confirmed, with Matt Reeves leading his own shared universe based within the gothic and gritty world of The Batman.

The Batman Part II Will be Part of the Elseworlds Franchise

The Batman 2: what to expect
Warner Bros. Pictures

Details of what The Batman Part II will involve remain under wraps at present, but both Pattinson and Reeves have since expressed interest in introducing Robin, with the pair referencing the likes of the Court of Owls, Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, and Hush as potential villains in the follow-up. The Batman Part II will see Matt Reeves return to direct the sequel, which he has written alongside Mattson Tomlin, with Pattinson all set to once again don the cape and cowl.

While James Gunn and Peter Safran will craft their own, main shared universe as part of the new-and-hopefully-improved DCU, even introducing another iteration of Batman in The Brave and the Bold, The Batman Part II will come as part of the Elseworlds franchise. The Elseworlds projects will run separate to the main DCU, allowing filmmakers such as Matt Reeves to create shared cinematic universes untethered by whatever events are occurring in such movies as Superman: Legacy and The Authority.

First up is the HBO Max The Penguin series, which sees Oscar nominee Colin Farrell return as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot aka Penguin and takes place one week following the events of The Batman. The series will explore the rise to power of Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot in Gotham City's criminal underworld following the power vacuum left by the death of Carmine Falcone.

The Batman Part II is scheduled to be released on October 3, 2025.
