Colin Farrell has been a standout favorite for many filmgoers who saw The Batman. Directed by Matt Reeves, the new film features an ensemble cast including Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon. Though Farrell's screentime as Oswald Cobblepot is limited, he was labeled by many fans on social media as the character who stole the show.

"The new Batman is on a thin line between fiction and non-fiction," tweets one fan. "It feels like it might as well happen in real life. The film is captured in a very DC way, but is more darker than the previous Batman movies. Colin Farrell as the Penguin steals the show."

"Colin Farrell really steals the show. He eats up every scene he’s in," writes another viewer.

Praising many cast members but crediting Farrell as the show stealer, another fan said, "The Batman is good. Real good. Loved that Pattinsons clearly plays a different character for both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Turturro's Falcone comes to light as a big as scumbag that was delightful, and Farrell's penguin steals the show. Kravitz owns too, and is given plenty to do."

Similarly, another tweet reads, "I loved The Batman. It’s beautiful and brutal and sad and sweet. Pattinson is a perfect brooding Batman. Paul Dano is, as always, a delight, and Colin Farrell steals the show."

Matt Reeves knew that there was a lot of potential there with this Penguin when Colin Farrell was on set bringing the character to life. Also recognizing Farrell to be a scene-stealer, Reeves recently told the Toronto Sun that he knew he had to make a spinoff series that expanded upon Penguin's story. It is now in development at HBO Max along with other planned spinoffs, though the Penguin series was originally thought of as The Batman 2.

"We’re doing this Penguin series and one of the great things about that is Colin Farrell — he’s like you’ve never seen him," Farrell said. "He’s so incredible and he’s a scene-stealer. Along the way, we thought maybe we could do (his character) as a series. So I talked to HBO Max and showed them Colin in the movie and spoke to them about what this could be and they said, ‘Let’s do it.’ So we're doing that.”

The Batman is now playing in movie theaters everywhere, though its Penguin-led spinoff series doesn't yet have a premiere date set for HBO Max. You can see what some of the other fans are saying about Farrell's Penguin below.
