The latest poster for Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming DC outing, The Batman, continues to lean into the beautiful film noir motif that has been draped over this reboot of the superhero icon since the very beginning. Once again casting Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader in stark red and black, a color scheme that has been dominant in a lot of the promotional material for The Batman, the newest poster is another superb piece of artwork created by the movie’s marketing team.
Putting the cowl at the poster’s center, this version of Bruce Wayne is blinded by the iconic symbol. The idea of The Batman’s version of Bruce being unable to see past his vendetta as The Dark Knight will play heavily in the character’s psychology and approach, with Robert Pattinson revealing he has gone so deep into the vigilante identity that he actually enjoys beating bad guys to a pulp.
"I imagined it that way from the rehearsal of the first fight, I thought it was funnier: something in him just wanted to slit the guy's throat! I told myself that if he spends his nights chasing criminals, it is impossible that he does not take pleasure in it,” Pattinson explained. “He suffers and it is a desire that overwhelms him. And by dint of knocking, his mind clears, he calms down, he reaches a state close to plenitude. I'm sure in this first fight, he manages to convince himself that every guy in front of him is the one who killed his mother (Laughs.) And so that allows him to vent all his rage."
Director Matt Reeves Wants The Batman to be the Definitive Adaptation
Directed by Matt Reeves from a screenplay he wrote with Peter Craig, the filmmaker recently explained why The Batman needed to be a reboot as opposed to the Ben Affleck-fronted version that was initially on the cards. “I told Warner Bros that I had to be given the freedom to do the definitive Batman movie,” Reeves said. “Impossible to launch halfway into a Batman, impossible to do it as an amateur! Aim for the stars. That doesn’t mean we’ll get there, but if we leave without ambition, it’s bound to be a disaster. I will not have tolerated to miss on the comic book character that I like the most.”
The Batman will introduce an early version of the character, picking up during his second year of fighting crime. Now questioning how successful his methods are, Batman suddenly comes up against The Riddler, a serial killer who targets elite Gotham City citizens. Batman slowly uncovers corruption that connects to his own family during the investigation and is forced to make new allies to catch the Riddler and bring the corrupt to justice.
The movie has amassed an all-star cast alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, including Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. The Batman is scheduled for release in the United States on March 4, 2022, and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, having been delayed from a release date of June 2021 due to the ongoing global circumstances.
