With The Batman all set to wow audiences later this week, and following some stellar reviews, talk has already turned to a sequel. Though it took quite some time to get the first adventure for Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight to the big screen, The Batman producer Dylan Clark has offered some good news to those wondering when audiences will return to this iteration of Gotham City.

"I will go on record and say that it will be less than five years."

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Clark revealed that audiences will not be waiting too long (in movie production terms anyway) for The Batman 2. So confident is Clark of the release window for a sequel that the producer was even willing to go on record, meaning that we should hopefully see more from this version of the Caped Crusader within the next few years.

The Batman director Matt Reeves meanwhile appears to be singing from a similar hymn sheet to producer Dylan Clark, with the filmmaker recently saying that, while he plans to wait a little while before delving back in, he doesn’t intend on waiting too long. "I think that if we succeed on that front, I know that I have a lot of stories I want to tell, and then we'll do chapter 2, but not because we didn't make this one a complete experience,” the filmmaker said regarding a sequel. “Let's just see what happens, let's see the audience watch it. I hope they connect to it and if they do then yes there's definitely more to do, and I will not be napping for too long!"

The Batman picks up two years into Bruce Wayne’s vendetta of stalking the streets as the Batman. Striking fear into the hearts of criminals has led Bruce deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies -- Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) -- amongst the city's corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham's elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World's Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

The Batman has so far been met with rave reviews from critics, with many hailing it a “masterpiece” and praising the efforts of the cast, including Robert Pattinson, Zoe Kravitz, and Paul Dano, as well as director Matt Reeves depiction of Gotham City. The Batman is currently sitting at an impressive 86% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 205 reviews.

The Batman is scheduled to be theatrically released on March 4.
