The latest TV spot for the upcoming DC outing, The Batman, puts the spotlight on Robert Pattinson and his “Batman voice.” Titled “I Am The Shadows,” the brief clip, which was shared to YouTube by user ThatOneGuy, offers a few glimpses of new footage from the highly anticipated comic book movie, as Pattinson’s Dark Knight delivers some pitch-perfect dialogue in the gravelly, whispered tones expected of the beloved character.

“They think I'm hiding in the shadows watching, waiting to strike,” Pattinson’s crime-fighting explanation begins, before concluding with one of the most Batman-esque lines of dialogue ever committed to celluloid: “I am the shadows.”

Pattinson avoids the over-graveled, sore throat-inducing gruffness of Christian Bale’s Batman voice, instead opting for more hushed tones, changing his usual voice just slightly with the use of a measured whisper. Opinions over Pattinson’s casting as The Batman are still somewhat divided, but the more footage of the actor in the iconic role, the more people are coming over to the idea that the former Twilight star could be the best iteration of The Dark Knight yet.

The Batman will introduce audiences to a version of the DC superhero a mere two years into his career of stalking the streets as Batman. Striking fear into the hearts of criminals has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies, including Alfred Pennyworth and Lt. James Gordon, amongst the city's corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer named The Riddler targets Gotham's elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World's Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Catwoman, The Penguin, and mob boss Carmine Falcone. As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Robert Pattinson will be backed up by an all-star cast, including Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) as Selina Kyle/Catwoman; Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years a Slave) as Edward Nashton/The Riddler; Jeffrey Wright (No Time to Die, Westworld) as the GCPD's James Gordon; John Turturro (Transformers, The Plot Against America) as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard (The Magnificent Seven, Interrogation) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Jayme Lawson (Farewell Amor) as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; Andy Serkis (War for the Planet of the Apes, Black Panther) as Alfred; and Colin Farrell (The Gentlemen, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin.

Directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig, The Batman is scheduled for release in the United States on March 4, 2022, following a series of delays.
