Sophie Nélisse, Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson have boarded an upcoming adaptation of Markus Zusak's novel The Book Thief.

The story centers on Liesel Meminger, a young girl that witnesses the horrors of Nazi Germany while in custody of her foster parents. The girl has a habit of stealing and becomes obsessed with acquiring books. Sophie Nélisse is playing the young girl, with Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson portraying her parents.

Brian Percival is directing from a script provided by Michael Petroni. Ken Blancato and Karen Rosenfelt are producing.

Production is slated to begin later this month in Berlin.
