One of the more interesting debates of today with fans of The Boys is whether Homelander could match up with Superman. The comparisons are natural, as Homelander serves as a parody of the Man of Steel, carrying over many of the very same superpowers. Of course, the biggest difference is that Superman uses his powers for good while Homelander is a complete sociopath who constantly seems like he's on the verge of decimating the entire planet.

So, what would happen if these two were to ever meet in a hypothetical battle? Different fans will have their own opinions on whow would win this fight. In a new interview with The Illuminerdi, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has now weighed in with his faults. According to Kripke, Homelander has the edge because he has no moral code that he abides by, unlike the Man of Steel. The implication is that while Superman might be holding back, Homelander would pull no punches whatsoever, resorting to the dirtiest tactics to make sure he wins.

“I mean it’s definitely Homelander because Superman has morals and Homelander is like a hardcore sociopath. So, it’s like Homelander has no problem ripping off Superman’s testicles, like zero. And Superman’s gonna be like punching above the belt. So, it’s kind of not a contest.”

Chances are there are going to be a lot of Superman fans who disagree with this assessment. A crossover doesn't seem likely, so we will probably never really know for sure. What Homelander will need to worry about in the third season of The Boys, apparently, is the arrival of the superhero group known as Payback. The group was basically Vought's premiere team of superheroes in the years before The Seven was put together with Homelander leading the way. Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy is one of Vought's very first superheroes and served as the leader of Payback.

“I mean all of them [are important]! I mean I think they all get amazing things to do," Kripke also told The Illuminerdi of Payback's arrival. "I mean season 3’s fun because it’s not just about Soldier Boy, but it’s about the team he was a part of which is called Payback. And Laurie Holden plays Crimson Countess and there’s a bunch of other heroes who are amazing. So, sort of seeing who was the Seven before the Seven. And what was life like for Vought? In the history of Vought what was it like in the 60s and 70s and 80s? To dig into the history of the world, not just the present has been a lot of fun.”

The first two seasons of The Boys were very well received by fans and there is a lot of excitement heading into the third season. Serving as a spoof of superhero fiction, The Boys follows a ragtag group of vigilantes whose mission is to prevent corrupt superheroes from abusing their abilities. Amazon has not yet announced a premiere date for season three of The Boys. In the meantime, the first two seasons can be binged on Prime Video.
