SPOILER WARNING: Spoilers for the Season 3 Finale of The Boys ahead

The Boys has always been a show which heavily relied on political commentary, and Season 3 took that aspect even further. Instead of subtle hints to our current political climate, a new storyline has been introduced involving super-villain supe Victoria Neumann running for vice president. Throughout the season, Homelander has accused the media of spreading fake news and lying to the public. Sound familiar?

However, the final scene of Season 3 took a Donald Trump quote and brought it to life. After Ryan decides to stick with Homelander following the battle at Vought Tower, the power-hungry supe finally feels comfortable presenting his son to the public. They both land in front of a crowd of adoring fans before a Starlight protestor throws something that bounces off Ryan. Homelander immediately goes into protective dad mode, lasering the protestor's head in two. The crowd is silent for a few moments before cheering erupts throughout the group, with M.M's daughter's stepdad leading the pack.

In 15 seconds, you see Homelander's face go from shock and believing his fans may never love him again to pride and relief as he realizes he can do whatever he wants. The scene may remind you of a particular Donald Trump quote for fans who follow politics or turned the news on at any point from 2016 to 2020. While Trump was running his initial campaign, the future president said, "I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters, OK? It's, like, incredible."

In the final scene, Homelander stands in the middle of Fifth Avenue and 'shoots' somebody, which only delights his crowd even more. In an interview with Deadline, showrunner Eric Kripke explained their intention with the finale of Season 3.

"Could we take Homelander so far as to literally kill somebody on Fifth Avenue and then be applauded for it? It's funny. It's like at the time we wrote it, we felt it was like a little satirically pushed, but it is true that the more awful politicians are behaving, you know, the more popular they're becoming with their fan base."

Kripke has revealed that Trump is a significant inspiration for their take on Homelander in the past, which might ramp up in Season 4. However, regardless of who the character is based on, everyone within The Boys universe is in trouble with the new Homelander.

Homelander is the most powerful being on Earth, with the ability to destroy the world entirely on his own. Through three seasons, the only thing which kept the supe villain from turning the globe into ash was the love of his fans. However, the final scene in Season 3 allows Homelander to realize that the crowd will still love him, even if they see him killing. Unfortunately for Earth, his own fans have ultimately doomed themselves.

Earlier in the season, Homelander explains what he would do if he loses his reputation when Starlight threatens to release the plane video captured from Season 1.

"Let's light this candle huh. I mean sure, I'll lose everything but, then I'll have nothing to lose. First, I'll take out the nerve centers. The White House, the Pentagon, then any domestic defense capabilities. And then critical infrastructure like cellular internet that kind of thing. And then, well I think then, I'll just wipe New York off the map, for fun. I'll even throw in Des Moines and that little cousin hicktown that Maeve's from because why not. See Starlight, I'd prefer to be loved, but if you take that away from me, well, being feared is A1 okie dope by me. So, go ahead partner. Do it. No? You don't want to do it. Well then I would have to say that you have absolutely no leverage because I am the Homelander, and I really can do whatever the [expletive] I want."

Unfortunately, Homelander's fans assured the supe that despite whatever he does, they will still admire him, leaving room for anything and everything to become possible in the upcoming Season 4.
