The Cell 2 is in development, according to Video Business.

The site reports:

New Line's The Cell 2 began principal photography last month. Its story line is under wraps, but Kasha confirms it does extend the franchise, which kicked off with 2000 theatrical The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez. This next installment, slated for third-quarter 2008, stars Frank Whaley (Vacancy) and Tessie Santiago (The Way Back Home).

The film will be a direct-to-DVD release.
