Joel and Ethan Coen have made a deal to write the script for DreamWorks' currently untitled Cold War thriller with Steven Spielberg directing and Tom Hanks starring in the lead.

The film is based on the true story of American attorney James Donovan, who was enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to negotiate the 1962 release of U-2 spy plane pilot Francis Gary Powers. The pilot was shot down over Russia two years prior. Tom Hanks will be portraying the attorney. The brothers will be revising an original draft by Matt Charman.

The Coen Brothers have written many Oscar nominated movies including Fargo, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, No Country for Old Men and True Grit, all of which they directed themselves. Their next project Unbroken is slated to hit theaters December 25th, 2014 with Angelina Jolie directing.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks previously worked together on Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal. Marc Platt is producing this project with the director. No production date have been released.
