The first trailer for the upcoming John Wick spinoff series, The Continental, takes us into the early years of this world inhabited by gold coin-collecting assassins. Released courtesy of Peacock, The Continental transports us to the 1970s and introduces us to a younger version of Winston Scott, who has sights set on the famous hotel. Check out the first trailer for The Continental below.

Starring The Flight Attendant, The Purge, and Ambulance star Colin Woodell as Winston Scott, who takes over the role of one of John Wick’s only friends from actor Ian McShane, The Continental tells the backstory of how Winston came to his prestigious position as proprietor of The Continental hotel in the 1970s and establishes it as a safe haven for assassins where no business may take place. Not only will The Continental reveal the fictional history of Winston and the titular establishment, the series will also fold in real-world events, including the Great Garbage Strike and the American Mafia's rise to economic power.

Developed by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward and Shawn Simmons for Peacock, The Continental stars Mel Gibson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, Nhung Kate, Ben Robson, Peter Greene, and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Ayomide Adegun as a young Charon, played in the John Wick series by the late, great Lance Reddick.

With audiences now all set to check-in to The Continental, the John Wick shared universe is now ready to begin. Following the conclusion of John Wick: Chapter 4, which could end up being the last time we see the character in his own series of movies, the franchise will continue with all manner of spinoffs. First up is Ballerina, which will find No Time to Die and Knives Out star Ana de Armas leading the way as Rooney, a ballerina and trained assassin who seeks revenge by hunting the murderers of her family. Directed by Len Wiseman from a screenplay by Shay Hatten and Emerald Fennell, and based on a story by Hatten, Ballerina is expected to be the first spark that sets the John Wick shared universe alight.

"I think this movie is just opening up more and more avenues of this world. There's all these little pockets of different crime families, and different corners of the world that John might never have a reason to go visit in his mainline story quest,” explained Ballerina writer Shay Hatten. “But 'Ballerina,' through the lens of the ballet theatre that we see John visit in the third movie, explores a character who's come up through that, and then gets sent on a journey to a new pocket of the Wick world that I think is a concept that we haven't seen in any of the four previous movies. I think it really just shows this limitless potential for expanding and exploring the grey areas of this world."

Ballerina is scheduled to be released on June 7, 2024. Other projects set in the world of John Wick, including one centered on John Wick: Chapter 4 character Nobody, and another following Caine and Akira played by Donnie Yen and Rina Sawayama, respectively, are now reportedly being considered.
