Paramount Movies has released the official trailer for the new action-thriller The Contractor. Starring Chris Pine (Star Trek), the film follows an elite soldier on the run from hired killers after his first mission goes awry. You can check out the trailer for the film below.

The official synopsis for The Contractor reads: "Chris Pine stars in the action-packed thriller as Special Forces Sergeant James Harper, who is involuntarily discharged from the Army and cut-off from his pension. In debt, out of options and desperate to provide for his family, Harper contracts with a private underground military force. When the very first assignment goes awry, the elite soldier finds himself hunted and on the run, caught in a dangerous conspiracy and fighting to stay alive long enough to get home and uncover the true motives of those who betrayed him."

Tarik Saleh directs The Contractor with a screenplay by J. P. Davis. It stars Chris Pine, Ben Foster, Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Marsan, JD Pardo, Florian Munteanu, and Kiefer Sutherland. The film is produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee under their Thunder Road Films banner with Esther Hornstein serving as co-producer. Pine executive produced with 30WEST's Dan Friedkin, Micah Green as well as Dan Steinman, Jonathan Fuhrman, Tom Lassally, and Josh Bratman.

The Contractor Is One of Many Upcoming Films Starring Chris Pine

Chris Pine's breakout role is as James T. Kirk in the Star Trek reboot movie series. More recently, he played Steve Trevor in the DCEU films Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. His other credits include Unstoppable, A Wrinkle in Time, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and Outlaw King. It was also recently reported that a new Star Trek sequel is in development with Pine on board to reprise his role as Kirk. As an actor, Pine is attached to some other exciting projects as well, which includes a starring role as part of the ensemble cast of a Dungeons & Dragons film.

This month, Deadline reported that Pine is also preparing to step back behind the camera for another upcoming project. The actor is set to mark his directorial debut with Poolman in addition to starring in the movie with Danny DeVito and Annette Bening. Described as "Big Lebowski meets LA film noir with a healthy splash of La La Land," the film is also produced by Pine, Stacey Sher, Patty Jenkins, and Ian Gotler. Pine and Gotler co-wrote the screenplay.

The Contractor is set to be released on April 1, 2022, in theaters, On Demand, and On Digital.
