When we last saw the famously prehistoric family, they had found themselves a new home with the family of the future. It looks like shenanigans are going to continue as The Croods: Family Tree is returning for a second season! The trailer can be viewed below, courtesy of Dreamworks on YouTube.

From the looks of the trailer, there’s never a dull day in paradise! The wild Croods and gentle Bettermans get into some not-so-friendly competition, vacation time, and some crazy fun with the kids. There’s even a beach episode with what looks like a nod to the famous “jumping the shark” gag!

The Croods: Family Tree is executive produced by Mark Banker (The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants) and Todd Grimes (The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants). Voicing the families are Kelly Marie Tran (Raya and the Last Dragon) as Dawn, Amy Landecker (Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts) as Ugga, Ally Dixon as Eep, Artemis Pebdani as Gran, Dee Bradley Baker as Sandy, AJ Locascio as Thunk, Darin Brooks as Guy, Matthew Waterson as Phil, Kiff VandenHeuvel as Grug, and Amy Roscoff as Hope. The upcoming season will also consist of seven new episodes!

The Croods started out as a 2013 animated feature from Dreamworks, which introduced us to the prehistoric family. Guy (originally voiced by Nicolas Cage) was both the father and leader of the group and believed that exploring the unknown meant certain death. But when Eep (Emma Stone) discovers a new stranger named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) with alien inventions, the normal family routine is thrown upside down.

Things get even worse when an earthquake causes a cave-in that destroys the family’s cave, forcing them to look for a new home. Through the adventure, the family learns to embrace the new and discover what the world truly has to offer! The film was a big success and was nominated for both an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. While it lost both to Disney’s mega-smash hit Frozen, it was still successful enough to launch a new franchise for Dreamworks, including a prequel series for Netflix titled Dawn of the Croods. The show lasted for a total of four seasons and was nominated for three Annie Awards.

We didn’t see the family return in a film sequel until 2020, when The Croods: A New Age premiered in 2020. It was the first family film to be released in theaters since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The film followed the family shortly after the events of the first film, still searching for a new home and wandering the wild world. They soon stumble across a great wall and let curiosity lead them over it. On the other side is food of all kinds in abundance, with a whole new family as caretakers! The Croods are then introduced to The Bettermans, who introduce the family to a world full of organization and safety. This immediately clashes with the Croods, as they begin to feel unwelcome in this new world, and their new family member Guy begins to wonder which world he truly belongs in.

The Croods: Family Tree takes place after the second film and proves that the shenanigans never stop. This is especially true if you mix a little bit of chaos mixed with clever ideas. The second season of The Croods: Family Tree premiers on Hulu and Peacock on April 5th, 2022!
