Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for The Crown season 4, which also brings with it the official release date. The critically-heralded series will make its return on November 15. As we can see from the trailer, not only are we getting a whole lot of Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman as Queen Elizabeth II, but the arrival of Princess Diana is also hinted at. Emma Corrin will portray the iconic British royal in the upcoming season.

The trailer opens up with a shot of the Queen riding on horseback. Shots of a media frenzy are peppered in before we get to our first look at Diana Spencer. We lead up to a shot of her in her wedding gown which is, on its own, lovely. But the whole thing has a cryptic feel to it. And understandably so, given the real-life tragedy that befell Princess Diana and the royal family. Brief though it may be, this is an affecting teaser. Olivia Coleman's Queen Elizabeth II can be heard saying the following.

"Something as important as the monarchy simply cannot be allowed to fail."

The cast this season also includes Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Josh O'Connor as Prince Charles and Marion Bailey as The Queen Mother. The series was originally supposed to end with season 5. However, creator Peter Morgan opted to continue for another run, which will keep the show going through season 6. Though it will not be getting up to the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle timeline.

Season 4 will run 10 episodes and cover 1979 through 1990. The season picks up as the 1970s are drawing to a close, with Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family finding themselves preoccupied with safeguarding the line of succession. They do so by finding an appropriate bride for Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor), who is still unmarried at 30. As the country begins to feel the impact of divisive policies introduced by Britain's first female Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson), tensions flare between her and the Queen. They only worsen as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, which generates conflict within the Commonwealth. While Charles' romance with a young Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) offers a sorely needed fairytale to unite the British people, behind closed doors, the Royal family is becoming increasingly divided.

It was recently revealed that Elizabeth Debicki (Widows, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), will be taking over the role of Princess Diana for the show's final two seasons. The series has featured a regularly rotating series of cast members as it marches through time. Claire Foy played Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons before Olivia Coleman took over in season 3. The Crown season 4 arrives in November via the Netflix streaming service.
