Matt Reeves’ The Batman brought DC front and center. With all the positive reviews this movie got, fans are craving more from the studio. There’s already a plethora of DC TV shows renewed for this year like The Flash, Titans, Doom Patrol, Pennyworth, Batwoman, etc. Then there are new shows like the Blue Beetle, too. Amongst all these shows, there’s one that fans are really excited about, especially looking at the casting, and that is Gotham Knights.

The CW only confirmed this new series earlier this year. The project has officially received a pilot order and will go forward with filming the trial episode. Gotham Knights, as mentioned earlier, is one of the several DC shows in the pipeline. Interestingly, fans are actually referring to it as CW-Verse since many DC shows have taken over this network.

The CW network is on a roll this year with them green-lighting a bunch of new shows this season like the Walker prequel, Walker: Independence, and the Supernatural spin-off, The Winchesters. DC’s Gotham Knights is still in the early stages of development. However, there has been a lot of new information, especially about the new cast lineup that has been doing the rounds lately. So, let’s talk about everything we know so far about The CW’s Gotham Knights.

The Plot

While not much about the Gotham Knights’ plot has been revealed, we know that the story will revolve around the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s death. A group of eclectic individuals gets wrongly framed for Wayne’s murder. In the hope of clearing their names, they are joined by Bruce Wayne’s adopted and rebellious son, who forms an unlikely alliance with the wrongly accused group for killing his father. With Batman dead, Gotham City descends into the most dangerous it has ever been, allowing villains to take advantage of it and cause a ruckus throughout the city. So, this group takes it as their responsibility to keep the city safe by taking Batman’s place.

Bill Finger and Bob Kane are the writers and creators of the comic book on which the show will be based. There is also a video game with the same name in development. While the TV series and the show share some similarities in their plot, there isn’t exactly any real connection between them.

The Cast & Crew

Misha Collins
The CW

Gotham Knight has been in the news a lot for the last couple of weeks since the network has been finalizing several actors. Tyler DiChiara, of The Virgin of Highland Park fame, and Fallon Smythe of Grown-ish fame were roped in by the network as series regulars, as reported by Deadline. Smythe is set to play Harper Row, described as acerbic, streetwise, and often underestimated. This blue-haired bisexual is a gifted engineer capable of fixing anything. DiChiara is set to play Cullen Row, a transgender teen tired of being agreeable and polite. Row is clever and adept at reading human nature.

In another Deadline report, the network announced Navia Robinson (Raven’s Home), Oscar Morgan (De Son Vivant), Olivia Rose Keegan (Days Of Our Lives), and Anna Lore (All American) were confirmed as series regulars. Robinson will play Carrie Kelley, who’s idealistic, fearless, and plucky, even talking her way into being Batman’s unlikely sidekick. Morgan will be playing Turner Hayes. Hayes remains resilient and driven to live up to his billionaire adoptive father’s name. Keegan will portray Duela, an unpredictable, abrasive, unhinged fighter and skilled thief. Lore will play the sarcastic and highly intelligent Stephanie Brown, who is also a "formidable coder."

Lastly, Supernatural alum Misha Collins has been tapped for the role of Harvey Dent. His character will be Gotham city’s charismatic, hard-charging District Attorney. He has a rigid sense of what’s right and wrong, and his idealism and a single-minded quest for justice tragically and ironically transforms him into one of the city’s most feared supervillain, Two-Face.

Gotham Knights will be produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The show is co-written by Batwoman trip James Stoteraux, Natalie Abrams, and Chad Fiveash. Storeraux and Fiveash will also executive produce this show alongside Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and Greg Berlanti. Abrams will also serve as the show’s co-executive producer, and Danny Cannon will executive produce and direct the pilot.

Potential Release Date

Gotham Knights is still in its early stages of the development process. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in April 2022. The CW is yet to release an official release date for the pilot episode. Assuming everything starts on time and the project is green-lit to be turned into a series, we can safely assume that Gotham Knights should hit The CW network sometime in the fall.
