Try and think of today’s Daily Spin as a kind of quest to find order in what is inherently chaotic – trust me, it’ll be just like the ancient Sumerian epic of creation – only with jangling DVD’s instead of a WWF style grudge match between a four-eyed, fire-breathing god and a six-headed she-dragon from the abyss. Really, I think I’m on to something here...No, seriously...
First off, Universal has released early details of the December 14th release of Todd Williams collaboration with Jeff Bridges, Kim Basinger, Mimi Rogers and Bijou Phillips The Door in the Floor. The film will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and both English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. This one should end up retailing somewhere around $29.99. Universal will also be unburdening their library by releasing Izzy & Moe, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Prince and the Surfer, Ski School 2 and Skateboard Madness on December 28th for ‘round about $9.99 a pop.
Meanwhile, Columbia has announced that they’ll be setting loose Falling from Grace on November 9th then Doing Hard Time and Zhou Yu's Train on November 23rd. And for reasons other than the over-all quality of his body of work, Columbia will also be releasing the Wesley Snipes and Mark Sheppard actioneer Unstoppable on November 23rd bearing an SRP of $24.99. It’ll be presented in anamorphic widescreen and English Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. No extras details accompanied Columbia’s announcement, and I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t really have cared if they had.
As if sensing that I’d need cheering up after the preceding announcement, Dreamworks has set a December 28th street date for the DVD shelf arrival of Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate’s unspeakably hilarious paean to local news shows of the 70’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Expect a retail price of around $29.99 to wind up stamped on both the PG-13 Full Screen Theatrical Cut and the 102min Widescreen/Full Screen Extended Cut. Each version will reportedly be offering:
• Bill Kurtis Interviewing Ron Burgundy
• "Ron Burgundy Biography" - An A&E Special
• Ron Burgundy's MTV Music Award Interviews
• ESPN Audition
• Afternoon Delight Music Video
• Behind-The-Scenes of Afternoon Delight Music Video
• English DD2.0 Stereo
• English and French DD5.1 Surround
• English, Aramaic, French and Spanish subtitles
• Bloopers and Outtakes
• Deleted Scenes and “More.”
If you’re like me and just couldn’t get enough of the ole Legend, you’ll definitely want to pick up Dreamwork’s 2 disc Limited Edition Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy Gift Set. Why? Because, apparently it’s going to include the Widescreen Extended Edition of Anchorman, the never-before-seen feature-length film Wake-Up Ron Burgundy, even more exclusive bonus features and a Ron Burgundy Month to View Journal. Whatever it costs, it’ll be worth it.
And rounding out today’s news we’ve got yet another batch of “just in time for the holidays” library titles from MGM. On December 7th you’ll be able to head out to Best Buy and pick up either Daddy's Dyin'...So Who's Got the Will?, Jinxed!, Hi, Mom!, Out Cold, Young Doctors in Love, one more version of Hound of the Baskervilles or Laura Dern’s troubling first outing Smooth Talk. All of the above will presented in anamorphic widescreen except for Out Cold, which will be full screen only and Young Doctors in Love, which will be presented in non-anamorphic widescreen. Apparently, they’ll all be retailing for around $14.99.
