Jared Leto is set to make his return to the big screen in The Dallas Buyers Club. He last starred in the 2009 indie drama Mr. Nobody.

The story centers on Ron Woodruff (Matthew McConaughey), a man who contracts AIDS in 1986. After becoming frustrated with the lack of medical options in the U.S., he begins smuggling alternative drugs into the country. Jared Leto will portray Rayon, another AIDS patient Woodruff befriends at the hospital. Gael García Bernal and Jennifer Garner also star.

Jean-Marc Vallée is directing from a screenplay by Melisa Wallack and Craig Borten. Nicolas Chartier is lining up buyers through his Voltage Pictures company at the American Film Market. Robbie Brenner and Rachel Winter are producing.

Production is scheduled to begin next week in New Orleans. Jared Leto has been keeping busy during his hiatus from acting as the front man for the rock band 30 Seconds to Mars, which recently wrapped up a world tour.
