The Dark Knight has finally reached the $1 billion mark at the worldwide box office. According to Variety, it is only the fourth film to ever reach this coveted milestone.

Warner Brothers announced the news on Friday, revealing that the combined domestic and international earnings for the film have gone beyond $1,001,082,160, thanks to the film's recent January 23rd re-release on IMAX screens. Sadly, though, its current stateside take of $533 million hasn't pushed Titanic out of the top spot just yet.

The film is currently up for 8 Academy Awards, the winners of which will be revealed tonight. Other films that have reached $1 billion include Titanic, The Lord Of The Rings: The Return of The King, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
