The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan went back behind the 65mm lens, filming over an hour of footage in the IMAX format for the film. The director also shot a large amount of IMAX footage for 2008's The Dark Knight, where he first saw how much impact the format had with an audience.

Here is what the director had to say about his experience watching The Dark Knight with IMAX fans.

"I remember looking at the audience every time a helicopter banked, and everyone was leaning slightly to the side. I had never seen an audience so immersed in a film."

Vice chairman of Paramount Pictures, Rob Moore also commented on the direction of IMAX films.

"I think audiences are starting to associate IMAX with the big event movies - that the two things go hand in hand."

This project marks the most IMAX footage used in a Hollywood film, making it a milestone for the director.
