The Doors

The Doors cuts a jagged swath through the life of Jim Morrison, one of the most charismatic and exciting figures in the history of rock and roll. The film begins with Morrison's arrival in California and explores his assimilation into the Venice Beach culture, his relationships with girlfriend Pamela Courson (Ryan) and future band mate Ray Manzarek (MacLachlan), and the origin of The Doors. As fame begins to take its toll, Morrison spirals downward into an inferno of drugs, alcohol, public obscenity and depression. The Doors is as much a tribute to the enduring power of the group's music as it is a cautionary tale about the perils of both celebrity and substance abuse.
