Sony Pictures Worldwide has acquired the rights to The End of the Tour starring Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg.

Jason Segel stars as Infinite Jest writer David Foster Wallace, who kills himself while on a book tour at the start of his fame. Jesse Eisenberg will play Rolling Stone reporter David Lipsky, who was on tour with Wallace at the time of his death. Their road trip causes a rift between the two writers, as they experience jealousy and competition between themselves, discussing women, depression, and the pros and cons of fame.

James Ponsoldt, best known for this past summer's teen romance The Spectacular Now, will direct. Shooting is expected to begin soon.

Infinite Jest itself has long languished as a film adaptation that could never get itself off the ground, with some claiming it is impossible to capture on film. Both Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell have, at one time, been connected to the adaptation.
