Filming is now underway on the highly anticipated action sequel, The Equalizer 3, with images from set revealing our first look at Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. Coming courtesy of the official Twitter account for The Equalizer franchise, the images find Washington and Fanning reunite after starring together in 2004’s Man of Fire, with the pair seen standing alongside The Equalizer 3 director Antoine Fuqua and star Gaia Scodellaro.

The images from the set of The Equalizer 3 find the gang all smiles as they prepare to once again send Denzel Washington’s mysterious Robert McCall on another action-packed adventure. This time, Robert will find himself punching and shooting his way to equalization across Europe, with cameras ready to roll on the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

Much like Robert McCall himself, details on The Equalizer 3 remain a mystery at present, though director Antoine Fuqua, who of course helmed both The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2, has revealed some insight into what audiences can expect from the threequel. "Hopefully, reveal a little more about Robert,” the filmmaker revealed. “Yeah, I think that's the key, to learn more about Robert McCall."

As well as delving into the life and times of Robert McCall, The Equalizer 3 will take the avenging angel out of the United States and send him on a globe-hopping adventure across Europe. Something which Fuqua has wanted to do for some time. "We're shooting it in Italy, so that'd be fun,” he said of the direction of the sequel. “We're going to scout now. Sardinia, probably show up somewhere up the Amalfi Coast. Also, trying to find some small villages, seaside villages, things like that, and then we'll be in Sicily and Naples."

One of the main talking points behind The Equalizer 3 is the welcome reunion of Man on Fire stars Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. A casting idea that came to Antoine Fuqua while discussing the 2004 Tony Scott thriller with Denzel Washington.

“I think I was talking to Denzel, we were on the phone just talking about [The Equalizer 3] and Man on Fire came up, talking about [late director Tony Scott] and we had talked about [his] birthday was coming, I believe, and Dakota [Fanning] came up and I was, “How old is Dakota now?” And we were like, “Oh yeah, she’s about the right age,” and I said, “That would be cool to bring her back.” So, that’s how it sort of happened and then I met with her and I loved her as soon as I walked in the room and met her. I mean, she’s a great actress, but you meet people-she’s just like-she’s incredible,” the director explained.

Details of Fanning’s role in The Equalizer 3 are currently unknown, but the idea of them working together again is surely more than enough for now.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by Richard Wenk, and produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Denzel Washington, The Equalizer 3 is scheduled to be released on September 1, 2023, by Sony Pictures.
