The new wave of how we watch movies is about to get a little more colorful.

Sony Electronics has debuted the first Blu-ray disc products in the US. They showed off a set-top player which will hit stores in July; the price of that will start around $1,000. Currently, Toshiba is only charging half that for its two HD DVD players, which are set to be released later this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Blue-ray and HD-DVD right now are the only choices in the race and are both competing for the major studios, with Blu-ray taking five of the six and most consumer electronics manufacturers. The HD DVD is being supported by three studios, only one of them exclusively, and two consumer electronics manufacturers.
