It's the end of an era, as The Flash has wrapped up filming. First launching on The CW back in 2014, The Flash has been around for the past decade, ultimately going on to become the final surviving show set in the Arrowverse. All good things must come to an end, however, and the cast and crew are starting to say their farewells on the final day of filming. Taking to Instagram, series star Brandon McKnight (Chester P. Runk) shared an image of the "last day cake" he'd been given to help celebrate the occasion. This confirms that work has wrapped up on the show, marking the end of an era.flashldcakeCandice Patton (Iris West-Allen) also shared an image to her own Instagram Stories to share how she felt about the series coming to an end. Not quite knowing what to say, all she could write is, "about to shoot my last shot of the flash. there are no words."candicepattonlastshotFans are also getting emotional bracing for the end of the show, as some had grown so accustomed to The Flash always returning after spending the past nine years on the air. As one fan writes, "Even though The Flash hasn’t been perfect in recent years, it has always been there for me when I needed it. It helped me get through a lot of hard times. And it hurts seeing the sun so close to setting. I’m really gonna miss it when it’s over. The show and the universe."

It's the End of an Era

The Flash was developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns. Grant Gustin leads the cast as Barry Allen, aka The Flash, with the cast also including Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne, Jesse L. Martin as Joe West, Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West, and Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora West-Allen. It's also beenr evealed that former stars Teddy Sears and John Wesley Shipp will be coming back for the final season.

While this might be the end of an era, it's the right time to end the series, according to Gustin. He recently opened up about how his thoughts on the ending, via E! News, and revealed that he was ready for it to be over.

"I'm ready for it to be over. And that's not for any negative reason," he said. "It's like when you're getting ready to finish high school and—granted I don't know what college I'm going to after this, I might not get into college—but you're excited to wrap up and move on to the next phase of your life."

He continued, "I'm ready emotionally and my family is ready to just kind of move into the next chapter together. I never had a real expectation, I've never tried to visualize how it would end after all these years. So, I have no idea what to expect from this last one, whatever script I receive in my inbox is what I'll accept as our story and then move forward with."

The final season of The Flash premiered on Feb. 8. The six-episode season is set to finish off the series when it airs on March 15, 2023.
