Warner Bros.' The Flash is finally making its way to theaters this summer. The anticipated film stars Ezra Miller as the titular character, a role they originated in 2016, with cameo appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The Flash (which was announced back in 2014) struggled with several production delays, including the Covid-19 pandemic. Miller's off-set behavior also left DCEU fans wondering if the film would ever hit the big screen.

The film debuted at CinemaCon last month to very high praise. Miller, who plays multiple characters in the movie, was commended for his work on the film. But Miller's talent is not really what's in question when people wonder about the film's possible reception. Miller's off-screen troubles date back to 2020 when they made headlines after a recording surfaced that showed Miller strangling a woman outside a bar in Iceland. In separate incidents, the actor was later cited with felony burglary in Vermont and arrested for disorderly conduct and harassment in Hawaii. In 2022, the parents of Environmental Activist Tokata Iron Eyes filed for an order of protection against Miller, accusing them of grooming their daughter while she was underage and later abusing her. Iron Eyes denied those claims.

Will Ezra Miller's run-ins with the law and allegations of abuse affect The Flash's success? While we won't have a definitive answer until the movie premieres this summer, The Flash's production designer, Paul Austerberry (who received an Oscar for his work on The Shape of Water) thinks the film will do just fine. During an interview with CBC, Austerburry said: "People will forget that," referencing the publicized incidents.

Austerburry also praised Miller's work on The Flash, and he's not the only one that has spoken publicly about Miller's talent. In 2022, Miller appeared as a young Salvador Dalí in Dalíland. Mary Harron, the film's director, said that Miller was "one of the greatest actors" she had ever worked with and added that Miller has always been professional and pleasant on set.

The future of The Flash remains uncertain, as there are several unanswered questions surrounding it. The positive buzz surrounding the movie suggests that people will flock to the theaters to watch the final version; whether Miller will ever be back in The Flash's suit remains to be seen. Last August, the actor issued a public apology, acknowledging that they had been going through an "intense crisis" and had begun ongoing treatment. In January, DC Studios co-head Peter Safran commented on Miller's future with the DCEU:

"When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we'll all figure out what the best way forward is, but right now, they are completely focused on their recovery," Safran said during a 2023 DC presentation at the Warner Bros. lot. "In our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they're making enormous progress."

The Flash will hit theaters on June 16.
