The latest trailer for the upcoming Netflix action thriller, The Gray Man, pits Hollywood A-listers Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans against each other for our entertainment. The latest footage gives us our best glimpse yet at the intense action and magnetic acting on display, as Avengers: Endgame directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo launch their latest blockbuster franchise. Based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney, and centers on Court Gentry aka Sierra Six, the CIA's most skilled mercenary whose true identity is known to none. After accidentally uncovering dark agency secrets, Gentry soon finds himself being hunted around the world by Lloyd Hansen, a psychopathic former colleague, who puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins.

With a production budget of $200 million, The Gray Man marks Netflix’s most expensive movie ever made and has garnered the sort of cast that should justify such a price tag. Ryan Gosling will lead The Gray Man as Court Gentry aka Sierra Six, a CIA black ops mercenary forced to go on the run. Chasing him will be Chris Evans as Lloyd Hansen, an unhinged former colleague of Gentry desperate to capture him in whatever violent and vicious way that he can.

If the likes of the Academy Award nominated Ryan Gosling and Captain America himself Chris Evans were not already enough to impress; an equally impressive supporting cast will be backing them up. No Time to Die star Ana de Armas stars as Dani Miranda, alongside Regé-Jean Page as Denny Carmichael, Billy Bob Thornton as Donald Fitzroy, Alfre Woodard as Maurice Cahill, with Jessica Henwick and Dhanush also on board.

The intention is for The Gray Man to spawn a franchise, with The Russo Brothers hoping to tell the story across multiple movies much like the chapters of a book. "What we're doing on Gray Man that's different [is]... we're not gonna answer every question in the first movie,” Joe Russo said of the project back in 2020. “So you're gonna finish the movie, [and] have a complete story, but you're still gonna have questions about the wider universe. And I think that's one way to break the model a little bit, is to not give the audience everything in one film. Don't have a close-ended narrative. Have an open-ended narrative that's [like] a chapter in a book."

Plans for several continuations have already begun, with a prequel centered on Chris Evans’ Lloyd Hansen and The Gray Man 2 already reportedly “at the very early stage.”

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, from a screenplay the latter co-wrote with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, The Gray Man is set for a limited release on July 15, 2022, followed by its release on Netflix on July 22, 2022.
