/the-great-gatsby-wants-ben-affleck/Two weeks ago we reported that Ben Affleck was in talks to join Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Now it seems that, due to scheduling issues, Ben Affleck has stepped away from the project.

Ben Affleck was circling the role of Tom Buchanan, the husband of Carey Mulligan's Daisy Buchanan. Since The Great Gatsby will be shooting in Australia, the scheduling couldn't be worked out because Ben Affleck is currently gearing up to direct Argo for producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov. It seems they tried to figure out a way for Ben Affleck to come aboard, but it just didn't work out. We first reported on Argo back in February when Ben Affleck was in talks to direct, and it seems those talks are now finalized.

Leonardo DiCaprio will star in The Great Gatsby as the title character, Jay Gatsby, while Carey Mulligan is set to play Daisy Buchanan, and Tobey Maguire is locked in for the Nick Carraway role. Baz Luhrmann will direct The Great Gatsby from an adapted screenplay he co-wrote with Craig Pearce.

It still isn't clear when The Great Gatsby will start production.
