Actor Ben Affleck is in talks to join the cast of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.

Ben Affleck will play Tom Buchanan, the husband of Carey Mulligan's Daisy Buchanan. Leonardo DiCaprio is playing Jay Gatsby while Tobey Maguire will portray Nick Carraway. The producers are still trying to lock in the roles of George Wilson and his wife, Myrtle, who is having an affair with Tom.

Baz Luhrmann is directing from a script he co-wrote with Craig Pearce, which is adapted from the F. Scott Fitzgerald literary classic.

It isn't clear when production will start on this 3D adaptation, although it seems Ben Affleck cleared some room from his directing schedule to be a part of The Great Gatsby. We reported in February that Ben Affleck is in talks to direct Argo, which centers around the 1979 hostage crisis in Tehran, Iran.

While it seems he is still planning on directing Argo, the actor-director will make time for The Great Gatsby. Warner Bros. is distributing both projects.
