20th Century Fox has brought on Michael Gracey to direct the long-gestating musical The Greatest Showman on Earth. The project was first announced over two years ago, with Hugh Jackman attached to star.

The musical centers on the life of P.T. Barnum (Hugh Jackman), who was known for his elaborate hoaxes before creating the three-ring circus. The story will also center on his pining for Swedish opera singer Jenny Lind.

Michael Gracey will direct The Greatest Showman on Earth from a screenplay by Jenny Bicks. The project will still remain in development for awhile, though, since Hugh Jackman is committed to The Wolverine and Les Miserables. We also reported earlier this month that Michael Gracey signed on to direct Snow and the Seven for Disney, a revisionist version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs set in 19th Century China.

It isn't known when production on The Greatest Showman on Earth will start yet.
