The HangoverNot even a possessed Megan Fox or a haunted couple could stop one of the hottest DVD's of 2009 from a threepeat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Hangover took the top spot on the DVD sales charts for the third week in a row, in a sweep of all three charts.

Despite only coming out three weeks ago, The Hangover is the second-best selling DVD of the year, behind the teen sensation Twilight. The closest competitor to the Todd Phillips comedy was the box office horror sensation Paranormal Activity, which finished in second place in both the DVD sales and rental charts. It wasn't a close second place, though, as Paranormal Activity sold just 47% as many units as The Hangover did, although it did scare up 78% as much rental business as The Hangover.

The Hangover completed the sweep by taking the Blu-ray sales crown,, overtaking last week's BD sales winner, District 9, which slipped to second place. District 9 still had a solid week on the BD charts though, selling 89% as many BD units as The Hangover.

The only other notable new release on the charts this past week turned out to be not so notable at all. Megan Fox's Jennifer's Body debuted at 12th place on the DVD sales charts and sixth place on the DVD rental charts.

As if it wasn't already a great week for The Hangover, Warner Bros. has announced that The Hangover was the top-selling comedy DVD of all time. Take a look at the studio's press release below.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' smash hit The Hangover has added another milestone to its record-breaking 2009 run. Since its release on Blu-ray and DVD on December 15th 2009 the film has become the #1 comedy of all time on the DVD charts with combined consumer and rental sales topping 8.6 million units with 1.5 million units coming from Blu-ray purchases. Strong sales are expected to continue bringing the six-month estimate to 9.5 million units.

"We are thrilled that The Hangover is enjoying the same level of success as it had on the big screen, having become the #1 comedy of all time on DVD. Working with a filmmaker as talented as Todd Phillips to bring this film to DVD-both for the fans who want to see it again and again, and for those who may not yet have seen it-has been a privilege," said Ron Sanders, President of Warner Home Video.

The Hangover was the box office surprise hit of 2009, earning more than $467 million worldwide during its theatrical run, making it the highest-grossing R-rated comedy of all time. Currently the film is nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for a Golden Globe in the category Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical. It also received a Critics' Choice Award nomination for Best Comedy, and was named one of the Top Ten films of the year by AFI.

The record-breaking performance of The Hangover was one of a number of milestones reached by Warner Home Video, which remains the market share leader in Total Video sales as well as the segment Total Blu-ray for 2009. Market share leader categories also include Theatrical Catalog Video, Family and Animation Catalog and TV on Video (DVD and BD combined).
