Fear not, horror fans as The Haunting of Hill House season 2, officially titled The Haunting of Bly Manor, is still on schedule. Currently, the entertainment industry is facing a widespread production shutdown that has had a major impact on virtually all TV shows and movies currently in the works. Luckily, according to director Mike Flanagan, the sophomore season of the hit horror series should be arriving on Netflix as planned.

The Doctor Sleep filmmaker is returning to shepherd season 2 of the horror anthology series. Netflix was quick to give the green light to a second installment, with The Haunting of Bly Manor announced in February 2019. Viewers have been impatiently awaiting its arrival ever since. Recently, Mike Flanagan was asked on Twitter by a fan in regards to the status of the show. Specifically, whether or not it would be delayed into 2021. Here's what Flanagan had to say in response.

"Going great. Still on schedule, we wrapped before the shutdown and post production has [been] carrying on from home. The show is shaping up wonderfully, I'm thrilled with it. At the moment no reason to think it'll be pushed. Netflix will announce the release date when they're ready."

Netflix hadn't previously revealed a release date, but The Haunting of Bly Manor is expected to arrive sometime this year. The Haunting of Hill House debuted back in October 2018. Mike Flanagan directed every episode of The Haunting of Hill House and is returning to direct some of season 2. Though, he is getting some help this time around from the likes of Ciarán Foy, Liam Gavin, Axelle Carolyn, Yolande Ramke and Ben Howling. The first season consisted of ten episodes. An episode count for season 2 has yet to be confirmed, but it will likely be in that same ballpark.

The Haunting of Bly Manor will be adapting the classic 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw. Written by Henry James, the tale has been widely regarded as one of the best ghost stories in all of literature. The story centers on a governess who arrives at an English country estate to care for the young Miles and Flora. Everything seems to be normal at first. However, terrifying events gradually begin to unfold. The tale has been adapted a few times in the past, including as a movie in 1961 titled The Innocents as well as a made-for-TV movie produced by the BBC in 2009.

The cast includes Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Catherine Parker, T'Nia Miller, Rahul Kohli, Amelia Eve, Benjamin Ainsworth and Amelie Smith. No footage has been revealed yet, but Mike Flanagan did previously tease that he believes season 2 will be much scarier than season 1. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details are made available. Feel free to check out the exchange from Mike Flanagan's Twitter for yourself.
