It took a minute for the /update-the-hobbit-extra-rejected-because-of-race/controversy surrounding The Hobbit's last casting search to settle down, which saw a woman screaming "racism" after being told her skin was too dark to appear as a Hobbit. Now Peter Jackson and his crew are once again seeking out local New Zealand extras for this upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel.
Let's just hope no one is turned away for not being pale enough, or for not being able to ride a horse. If memory serves me correctly, there weren't any African-American Elves in the first trilogy. Maybe that will all change with The Hobbit.
Peter Jackson is currently seeking Elven Horse Riders and Elven extras. The current call that has been listed does not site skin color as a requirement, so let's hope the casting directors have been prepped on how to handle anyone who shows up with slightly darker skin than the very opaque and white haired Orlando Bloom.
Here is the official The Hobbit casting call for Elven Horse Riders and Elven extras.
