Elizabeth Banks has joined the cast of Lionsgate's The Hunger Games, portraying Effie Trinket.

The story centers around a national event called The Hunger Games, where two teens from each of America's 12 districts are picked at random to compete in the games, where they must fight to the death. Elizabeth Banks' Effie Trinket is a chaperone for the 12th District, where the main characters Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) come from. Although she isn't fond of her lowly job at first, she becomes attached to her District 12 contestants Katniss and Peeta. Effie Trinket also sports a bright pink hair-do, although some believe it is a wig.
