Back in October, Lionsgate hired screenwriter Danny Strong (The Butler) to write the screenplays for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2. What wasn't reported at the time was that Lionsgate had a provision in the writer's contract that his deal for the second part was contingent on studio approval of his Part 1 script. Today we have word that his The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 screenplay has been completed and approved by the studio, and he is starting work on the franchise finale.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire director Francis Lawrence has already been confirmed to direct both The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.

What isn't ultimately clear, at this point, is where the split between the last two movies will occur. Be warned, there will be some slight spoilers for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire from this point on. The final book in author Suzanne Collins' trilogy follows Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Gale (Liam Hemsworth) leading all of Panem's 12 districts in a rebellion against the corrupt Capitol.
