One of the most influential and prolific sketch comedy shows of all time is making a comeback. It's been revealed that Amazon is bringing back The Kids in the Hall for a revival series. The original cast is set to return for the series, which has been handed a full season order from the company. What's more, Saturday Night Live mastermind Lorne Michaels is returning to produce the new season of the beloved show.

According to multiple reports, Dave Foley, Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson are all set to return for the new season of The Kids in the Hall on Amazon Prime. The new season will consist of eight episodes. It's said the gang will be bringing back classic characters from the show's original run, in addition to new characters crafted for the new episodes. Lorne Michaels had this to say about it in a statement.

"Even after 30 years, 'The Kids in the Hall' has retained its brilliance and originality. We are happy to be bringing back all of the original 'Kids' for the new series."

Amazon is competing with not only Netflix, but an increasing number of streaming services in the marketplace, such as HBO Max and NBC's Peacock, which are set to launch later this year, in addition to Disney+ and Apple TV+. As such, branded programming has become increasingly important. Bringing back a classic show like The Kids in the Hall is certainly one way to go about that. James Farrell, vice president of international originals for Amazon Studios, had this to say about it in a statement.

"We've been investing in Canada for several years and are excited to add to that momentum by making 'The Kids in the Hall' the first Canadian Amazon Original series. 'The Kids in the Hall' is an iconic show with a deep-rooted fan base. Several of our global hits, including 'The Boys,' 'Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan' and 'The Expanse' have been filmed in Canada and we are looking forward to continuing our work with talented producers and crew teams across the country to bring this series to our Prime members around the world."

The Kids in the Hall is widely regarded as one of the greatest sketch comedy shows ever produced. It originated on CBC Television in Canada, but gained popularity in the U.S. as well thanks to Comedy Central picking up the rights. The series debuted in 1988 and ran for a total of 102 episodes before going off the air in 1995.

The show brought forth many memorable comedic characters, such as The Chicken Lady, Headcrusher and the Sizzler Sisters, just to name a few. The members of the group released a movie, Brain Candy, in 1996. They also reunited for a miniseries, Death Comes to Town, in 2010. There is no word on when the revival series is set to air, but we'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details are made available. This news comes to us via Variety.
