Roadside Attractions has revealed a new trailer for The Last Full Measure. This is a Vietnam War epic that boasts an A-list cast that counts Sebastion Stan and Samuel L. Jackson in its ranks, amongst many others. This is set to arrive in early 2020, which means it's either going to be something of an early surprise, or that it's being dumped by the studio. These days, it's a little hard to tell but the trailer certainly paints an epic picture, but not the kind one is typically accustomed to in war movies.

The trailer kicks off by setting up the stakes at hand. We see a horrific Vietnam battle that took place, with one man stepping in to save a large group of his fellow soldiers from certain death. Yet, this heroic act went unrecognized for decades. But why? The movie unfolds across two time periods, both back during the war and in the modern-day, with these soldiers recounting the events from that fateful day. There are twists thrown in here to add to the intrigue, but not just for cinematic gravitas. This is, after all, based on a true story.

The full cast includes Sebastian Stan, Christopher Plummer, William Hurt, Ed Harris, Samuel L. Jackson, Fonda, LisaGay Hamilton, Jeremy Irvine, Diane Ladd, Amy Madigan, Linus Roache, John Savage, Alison Sudol and Bradley Whitford. So, at the very least, this thing has a ton of star power in its corner. And it's something of a Captain America: The Winter Soldier reunion, what with Stan and Jackson sharing the screen again.

The Last Full Measure centers on Vietnam War hero William H. Pitsenbarger (Jeremy Irvine), a U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen and medic who saved more than sixty men during a daring rescue mission in 1966. Pitsenbarger offered the chance to escape on the last helicopter out of a combat zone heavily under fire, but opted to stay behind to save and defend the lives of his fellow soldiers before making the ultimate sacrifice in the bloodiest battle of the war.

Thirty-two years after the fact, respected Pentagon staffer Scott Huffman (Sebastien Stan) is assigned to investigate a Congressional Medal of Honor request for Pitsenbarger made by his best friend and partner on the mission (William Hurt) and his parents (Christopher Plummer and Diane Ladd). Huffman seeks out the Army veterans who witnessed Pitsenbarger's acts of heroism, including Takoda (Samuel L. Jackson), Burr (Peter Fonda) and Mott (Ed Harris). However, as Huffman learns more about Pitsenbarger's courageous acts, he uncovers a major conspiracy behind the denial of the medal, which prompts him to put his career on the line in order to seek justice for Pitsenbarger.

War movies are a staple of cinema and have been for some time, so anytime something a little different comes along, such as this, it's certainly worth paying some attention to. Todd Robinson (Phantom) directs and penned the screenplay. The Last Full Measure hits theaters on January 24, 2020, from Roadside Attractions. Be sure to check out the new trailer for yourself.
