Prime Video has released another sneak peek for The Legend of Vox Machina ahead of its highly anticipated sophomore season. The 12-episode season premieres Friday, January 20th with the promise of being sillier, darker, and closer to the Dungeons and Dragons gameplay adapted from Critical Role’s weekly live stream. The brief clip shows the quick-witted Scanlan using his powers to skate on thin ice (literally) before he encounters a monstrous water creature that places him in a perilous position. As the team rushes to decipher the best way to save Scandan, he is saved by some unlikely allies.

After focusing on the Briarwood arc from Critical Role’s first campaign, the second season focuses on the Chroma Conclave arc which proposes a new threat that the seven-man Vox Machina team will have to face. The series’ official logline is below.

After saving the realm from evil and destruction at the hands of the most terrifying power couple in Exandria, Vox Machina is faced with saving the world once again—this time, from a sinister group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave.

Fans can expect the show’s usual absurdity, comedic moments, and gore in the upcoming second season. However, circumstances will be more dangerous for the Vox Machina gang as their legend develops. In an interview with Sportskeeda, one of the show’s creators Matthew Mercer spoke on the differences between the two seasons. "The scale of it just continues to grow. So, where the first season was just a more personal story unfolding of vengeance, this is where things begin to grow across Exandria and more is at stake."

The Adult Animated Fantasy Series Has Already Been Renewed

The past year within the film industry has showcased a sharp turn away from the streaming renaissance of the 2010s. Many networks and streaming platforms continue to cancel television series and movies for the sake of profits, sometimes even axing projects before production is finished. Now, the anticipatory period between a series premiere and a renewal leaves viewers with low expectations since many shows aren’t surviving past its first season, regardless of popularity. Even the universally acclaimed, global phenomenon Wednesday faced a dreadful wait before receiving a well-deserved series renewal in January. Thankfully, Legend of Vox Machina fans won’t have to play the waiting game as the series has already been renewed by Amazon.

According to Variety, The Legend of Vox Machina received its series’ renewal ahead of the season 2 premiere last October. The impressive feat was announced during the show’s panel at the 2022 New York Comic Con. The early renewal showcases Amazon’s faith in the series, which is warranted considering the positive reception and widespread success The Legend of Vox Machina has had since its premiere. With just over 300 episodes across three campaigns (Campaign 1 has over 500 hours of content just on its own), the series has plenty of source material to pull from in the animated adaptation.
