Risky Business Blog reports that author Dan Brown will make his first foray into screenwriting by adapting his own novel The Lost Symbol for Columbia Pictures.

Dan Brown wrote the novels The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, which were adapted into blockbusters starring Tom Hanks as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) wrote a previous draft of The Lost Symbol.

The Lost Symbol is the next adventure featuring Robert Langdon, who returns to America and investigates a new mystery surrounding the Freemasons in Washington D.C.

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are producing for Columbia Pictures. However, unlike the previous Robert Langdon movies The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, Ron Howard is not currently attached to direct The Lost Symbol. Tom Hanks hasn't officially signed on to reprise his Robert Langdon role as of yet, but we'll be sure to keep you posted with any new details on The Lost Symbol as soon as we have more information.
