There is perhaps no better film subgenre than the classic mix 'em up. A case of mistaken identity is a surefire recipe for drama and, oftentimes, hilarity. A character who has never thrown a punch in their life might find themselves tapping gloves inside a boxing ring, or a sultry individual might find themselves suddenly tasked with caring for a roomful of screaming children. In any case, a good the mix 'em up film creates unlikely pairings of both characters and actors, which can make for unexpected twists.

The recently released Netflix film The Man From Toronto is undoubtedly a solid addition to the hallowed halls of mix 'em up films. Directed by Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3, The Hitman's Bodyguard films), the film stars a pair of actors that are so wildly distinct that the very notion of confusing the two of them is downright hilarious: rough and tumble Texas native Woody Harrelson and quirky Philly comedian Kevin Hart.

Though the two actors, at surface level, have almost nothing in common, they are both incredibly talented and share certain chemistry that shined throughout the runtime of The Man From Toronto.

Kevin Hart is likely one of the greatest comedic talents of this generation, and fans of the comedian have a massive (and rapidly growing) portfolio of his films to draw upon. Additionally, Woody Harrelson should be considered to be among the greatest living actors. He's delivered a pitch-perfect performance in nearly every entertainment medium, from serialized sitcoms to prestigious HBO series, and of course, in countless feature films which range in genre from dystopian blockbusters to understated dramas.

In The Man from Toronto, the two talented performers complement one another. It's difficult to take a snarling Woody Harrelson too seriously when Kevin Hart is putting on his best tough guy face behind him. Furthermore, the comedy of Kevin Hart can never consume the film, as Harrelson's action chops can quickly overtake it.

It's fair to say that Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson, aside from the fact that the two of them are actors, are polar opposites. The obvious discrepancies between the two men are the genesis for the bulk of the drama in The Man from Toronto. Despite the fact that both characters are extremely wary of one another, they are forced to team up, and obviously, hilarity ensues. Woody Harrelson's Randy accrues an impressive body county throughout the film, and Kevin Hart's Teddy is there every step of the way to whine, wail, and throw up.

However, the two characters quickly bond. Though Teddy starts out as a convenient body double for Randy, who lets the lie that Kevin Hart's character is The Man from Toronto go on much too long when Randy finds out that he has been betrayed by his criminal handler, Hart's Teddy becomes his only ally.

At the end of The Man from Toronto, Woody Harrelson's titular assassin Randy has left behind the garish world of professional assassinations, instead opting to open up a restaurant. Kevin Hart's Teddy attends the restaurant, alongside Kaley Cuoco's (The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm) Anne.

Though Randy's upscale eatery, along with its outrageous prices, leaves a little something to be desired in terms of taste, a fact which is quietly expressed by both Hart's Teddy and Cuoco's Anne, the fact that Harrelson's Randy left his life of crime behind is representative of one of the mix 'em up film genre's most essential features: both characters involved in the mix-up grow on a personal level.

Through his interaction with Teddy, Randy is able to envision a life that doesn't involve wanton murder. On the flip side, Teddy gains the confidence necessary to succeed in business through his proximity to the terrifying world of a professional assassination.

Though reviews of The Man from Toronto were a mixed bag, there was a lot of praise surrounding the performances of both Woody Harrelson and Kevin Hart. A solid performance from the two leads was all that it took to cement this film as a classic in this subgenre of action films. In the course of the movie, both actors stepped into the other's shoes at times. Though Harrelson is no stranger to comedy, he was arguably more hilarious than Hart in this particular film, and Hart, who isn't often seen in the drama genre, had a handful of heartwarming moments.

At the end of the day, much like the film's titular assassin, The Man from Toronto was absolutely a killer flick. It is now streaming on Netflix.
