The official trailer for the upcoming sci-fi drama The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Naomie Harris, is out. Even David Bowie would be impressed. The series is set to make its debut on Sunday, April 24th, starting with the first two episodes of the limited series.

In the new trailer, you can see Ejiofor as an alien who arrives at Earth in hopes of saving it and his own planet. He joins a scientist, and they must work together to change the fate of both their worlds.

After crash landing in the desert, Faraday is lucky to meet Justin Falls (Naomie Harris), a struggling single mother who also happens to be a brilliant scientist and engineer. He’s fled his dying planet, and he needs her help to save Earth from the same fate. After she stops freaking out about him being an alien, that is. We also meet a nattily hatted Billy Nighy as Thomas Jerome Newton, an alien who’s been on Earth for decades.

Nighy takes over the role immortalized by David Bowie in Nicolas Roeg’s 1976 cult film The Man Who Fell to Earth,” which was also based on Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel. Nighy also had this to say about the role and new show:

“I was honored to be invited to play the part of Thomas Jerome Newton that glorious David Bowie made so famous. I was keen to work with Chiwetel and Naomie again [and] I am an enthusiast for shows which extrapolate from current technology and give us plausible glimpses of a possible near future. It’s an important story which, as well as being highly entertaining, discusses the crucial issues of our time. I like to think that the filmmakers of the original film would applaud Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet for their imaginative daring and loyal regard.”

In the original film, just as Thomas is ready to leave Earth, he is intercepted by the U.S. government, and his entire plan is threatened. Now we will get to see what happened after and what is going to happen to his plan.

This is no remake, but rather a sequel or a new story to add to the original film. The show will run for ten episodes and hopefully explore what Newton has been doing all this time, as well as the new alien who will be paying us a visit. What will the relationship be between the aliens and humans? Will the world be saved, or will Thomas be left alone again? Tune in April 24th on Showtime to find out.

The series is created, executive produced and written by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet. Executive producers are Rola Bauer, Tim Halkin, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Heather Kadin, and Aaron Baiers. Additional cast includes Jimmi Simpson, Rob Delaney, Sonya Cassidy, Joana Ribeiro, Annelle Olaleye, Kate Mulgrew, Clarke Peters.
