Fan anticipation for The Mandalorian season 3 has just gotten even higher. Per The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed on Friday that Christopher Lloyd has just boarded the cast of the third season of the hit Star Wars series. Lloyd is said to be on the call sheet for The Mandalorian, with the show currently shooting episodes for season 3 in California. The actor's role will reportedly be for a guest spot, but no details about his character have been revealed.

Likewise, there's a lot we still don't know about the third season of The Mandalorian. We do know that Pedro Pascal is expected to return in the lead role with other returning cast members, including Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Lloyd is the first announced guest star for season 3, though adding notable names to the series in this way is nothing new, considering the inclusion of Michel Biehn in season 2.

Lloyd is probably best known for his iconic role as Doc Brown in Back to the Future and its sequels. He has also voiced the character for an official video game and other animated projects. The veteran actor has yet to appear in the Star Wars universe, though he did have a memorable role as the Klingon Commander Kruge in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. More recently, Lloyd appeared in multiple films over the past year, including appearing with Bob Odenkirk in Nobody and Ben Affleck in The Tender Bar.

Lucasfilm has not yet offered an official comment on Lloyd's casting in The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian was created by Jon Favreau for Disney+. Debuting in 2019, the series is executive produced by Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Pedro Pascal leads the series as Din Djarin with the first two seasons also starring Carl Weathers, Werner Herzog, Omid Abtahi, Nick Nolte, Taika Waititi, Gina Carano, Emily Swallow, and Giancarlo Esposito. It was still undoubtedly Grogu, aka "Baby Yoda," who stole the show, quickly breaking out as one of Star Wars' most popular characters of all time.

It has been clear from the start that the fans and critics alike have been satisfied with The Mandalorian. The good reviews coupled with the immensely high viewership has kept not only the series going for additional seasons but has also spawned multiple spinoff shows. One spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, has since premiered on Disney+, starring Temuera Morrison alongside Ming-Na Wen. Another spinoff, the limited series Ahsoka, will feature Rosario Dawson reprising her role as Ahsoka Tano.

The Mandalorian season 3 doesn't yet have an official release date set for Disney+. Fans can first look forward to the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series set to debut on May 25. The first two seasons of The Mandalorian, as well as The Book of Boba Fett, are streaming on Disney+.
