Baby Yoda is ready to win over hearts all over again. The adorably memorable Grogu is ready to be saved once again from the last reminisce of the Galactic Empire and eat more Frog Lady eggs. StarWars.com just revealed that a new comic book series based on the popular characters from the Lucasfilm and Disney+'s series The Mandalorian is arriving this June at Marvel Comics. Marvel’s The Mandalorian will be an eight-issue, episode-by-episode adaptation of the Disney+ series’ first season.

According to StarWars.com, the series will be written by Rodney Barnes and illustrated by Georges Jeanty, with several variant covers available for each installment. For fans of The Mandalorian and Star Wars comic-book adaptations, it’s a chance to experience the events and characters of Season 1 in a whole new way (and hopefully for LGBTQ+ and Jewish fans of Star Wars, the comic will come with a replacement Cara Dune).

The illustrator of the upcoming The Mandalorian from Marvel Comics said:

I’ve always thought an artist’s style is a lot like writing in shorthand. It’s very subjective. What I bring to Star Wars is my detail and love for a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars, especially where bounty hunters are concerned, is a messy landscape. I love drawing all the little details. My look has always be detail-oriented, and with The Mandalorian there is so much going on with the character and in the background, and I look forward to adding visually to the already rich tapestry that makes up this universe!

“The story of the Mandalorian checks so many boxes of the stuff I’m passionate about,” Barnes added. “I love Westerns, fantasy, science fiction, comedy, drama…it’s a dream gig for any writer. I’m just glad I was chosen for this assignment!”

The Mandalorian Comic Is Finally Happening

Lucasfilm previously announced its plans for a new line of Star Wars comic books based on The Mandalorian, which focuses on the titular bounty hunter and his journey protecting the adorable Grogu, who has extensive Force powers. Back in June 2020, Marvel Comics, IDW Publishing, and Star Wars first announced that a new line of Star Wars comic books based on the popular Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, was coming from several different publishers, featuring books for fans of all ages:

In addition, The Mandalorian-inspired comics are coming from Marvel and IDW Publishing, and magazine, novelty, and coloring and activity titles are on the way from Titan, Studio Fun, Crayola, Thunder Bay Press, Disney Publishing Worldwide, and Dreamtivity. Younger bounty hunters can look forward to a Little Golden Book and a Screen Comix retelling of Season One.

Now that the original comic books based on The Mandalorian series are here, Lucasfilm and Disney+ seem to want to expand the line, with two other series announced as well. This news follows the recent announcement of the new Star Wars: Obi-Wan series and the Krrsantan collection, both coming soon from Marvel.
