Jon Favreau will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2023. The actor, writer, and director has become synonymous as one of the driving forces behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars Disney + shows like The Mandalorian, but his work has spanned three decades since he made his major movie debut alongside Sean Astin in 1993’s Rudy. His work on the Star Wars franchise has earned him huge acclaim among critics and fans, and now has also earned him a star on the most famous walkway in Los Angeles, as announced in a video on the Walk of Fame's YouTube Channel.

Jon Favreau has not been in the acting business long before he started to branch out into writing, producing and directing. His big breakthrough came in 1996, when he starred in and acted as screenwriter on Swingers, a movie that also gave fellow 2023 Walk of Fame recipient Vince Vaughn his big break. Over the following decade Favreau made regular TV appearances, with roles in Friends, The Sopranos, Dinner For Five and My Name Is Earl, and he continued to grow his film resume with parts in Batman Forever, Deep Impact, Daredevil and Something’s Gotta Give.

In 2003, Favreau directed the Will Ferrell Christmas smash Elf, as well as appearing in a small role in the movie. Then in 2008, Favreau directed and starred in Iron Man and became the one of the first people to appear in and direct a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He returned to direct Iron Man 2 and appeared as Harold “Happy” Hogan in eight MCU movies, including last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. During his time working with Marvel Studios and Disney, Favreau was also given the task of directing Disney’s live-action versions of The Jungle Book and The Lion King.

After becoming largely affiliated with Disney and their brands, Jon Favreau took on the task of bringing the Star Wars franchise to Disney+, and he proved to be more than up to the challenge. In 2019, The Mandalorian made its debut and became one of the biggest and most-loved Star Wars projects in years, and as creator, writer, director and producer, Favreau was the one who deserved all the credit.

As well as continuing to work on new seasons of The Mandalorian, Favreau has also worked on The Book of Boba Fett, which he created and wrote but did not direct, and will clearly continue to be a big part of the future of the Star Wars franchise in the coming years.

Jon Favreau being given a star on the Walk of Fame now seems like the right time. While he clearly still has a lot to give to the industry, after over a decade working in the MCU and with several award-winning and critically acclaimed directorial projects under his belt, there will be no one who can say that this latest accolade is not deserved. Favreau joins a list of 24 recipients who will be getting their own stars in 2023, which also includes actors Bill Pullman, Uma Thurman and a posthumous award for Paul Walker.
