The Mandalorian season 2 will reportedly feature characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. Season 1 just wrapped up last week and fans are both excited and disappointed to have to wait another year to see more Baby Yoda action. The first-ever live-action Star Wars series has proven to be a huge hit for Disney+, which just launched in the middle of November. Fans have had to tune in each week to see what happens as opposed to being able to stream every episode in one binge session.

Showrunner Jon Favreau officially announced The Mandalorian season 2 late last week and did so with an image of a Gamorrean guard. The guards are best-known for their work protecting Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi. According to sources close to Lucasfilm, season 2 will feature more characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. Since the show takes place five years after Return of the Jedi, this would make sense.

But, who will these characters be? The Mandalorian season 2 will more than likely end up showing more bounty hunters who survived the fall of the Empire. Some fans were hoping that Boba Fett would show up in season 1, but that was not to be and that seems like something Jon Favreau probably will not do. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have done an excellent job of subverting expectations, while keeping things rooted in the familiar. So, seeing them go with anything easy probably just isn't going to happen and as for finding out who the returning characters could be, we won't know until the show airs.

There is some speculation that The Mandalorian Season 2 could show us Luke and Lando's adventure on Pasaana, as mentioned by Lando in The Rise of Skywalker. The timeline for these events aren't mentioned, but it would roughly fall in line with The Mandalorian, as the duo's trip to Pasaana also happens several years after the events in Return of the Jedi.

Part of The Mandalorian's charm is its ability to surprise. Looking towards the big screen, The Rise of Skywalker had nearly all of its story leaked online in August. The Disney+ series went virtually under the radar and delivered Star Wars fans with a tiny green surprise. It's amazing that Baby Yoda was able to remain a secret for this long and Jon Favreau credits part of that secrecy to a talk he had with Donald Glover about Beyoncé's business model. The popstar/actress is able to secretly record albums and then drop them whenever she feels like it.

Baby Yoda's reveal was a shock to everybody and now that he has arrived, we only have more questions, which will have to be addressed in upcoming seasons. So far, he's only referred to as The Child and we know that he is 50-years old and learning to harness his Force powers. That, and he's also a member of Yoda's species. There's a lot to learn and hopefully Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are able to build off the success of the brief first season. Deadline was the first to report about original Star Wars trilogy characters returning in The Mandalorian season 2.
