Jon Favreau's Star Wars live-action show is officially titled The Mandalorian and focuses on a new warrior from the same race of bounty hunters as Jango Fett and son Boba Fett. While some hardcore fans were disappointed to learn that Lucasfilm was putting a stop to the standalone Boba Fett movie, they may have had their hopes reignited with the new live-action series. Obviously the show will not have a cameo appearance from Boba Fett since he's at the bottom of the Sarlacc Pit, but having another Mandalorian bounty hunter is pretty awesome.

In addition to being a pretty awesome idea, The Mandalorian confirms the rumors about the Star Wars live-action TV series that have been swirling for the past few weeks. Before the latest intel, it was revealed that the Star Wars live-action series would take place after the events of Return of the Jedi and before The Force Awakens. Jon Favreau has now released some more intriguing story details about the show. He had this to say.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorians were recently teased in Solo: A Star Wars Story, but contrary to rumors, a young Boba Fett never showed up in the film. Jon Favreau's live-action Star Wars series started production earlier this week, though casting has yet to be announced at this point in time. Pictures from the set were also shared, showing off a desert landscape that looked close to Tatooine. It's not clear if that's where the show will take place though.

Since casting has not been announced for The Mandalorian, it also is not clear who the new warrior will be. Star Wars Rebels fans are probably hoping that the new character will somehow be related to Sabine Wren. The TV series could tap into some of the stories from Rebels, which would be cool since Wren helped fans to realize that there were other Mandalorians in the Star Wars universe during the time of the original trilogy. However, that is just speculation at this time.

While Jon Favreau did announce some pretty awesome information about The Mandalorian, he did not give a release date. With that being said, production just started, and Disney is reportedly dumping $100 million into the project, which means that it has a pretty significant budget for VFX, leading to a longer time in the post-production process. It's going to be a pretty long wait, but for now, it's just awesome to know that Favreau's show is still moving forward and that it will have ties to Boba Fett.
