The latest trailer for The Meg, starring Jason Statham, has been revealed at San Diego Comic Con, and it may turn out to be a step up from the typical shark movies. The action and the style of The Meg is unlike most other monster movies we have seen in recent years, showing that it may end up being a worthwhile trip to the theater.

Since Jaws, a number of movies have tried to hop on the monster movie bandwagon, specifically with monsters of the sea like sharks, squids, and piranhas. However, the only Jaws rip-offs that have managed to stand the test of time over the years have been the poorly made, cheesy movies such as Deep Blue Sea and Sharknado, which are only known for being bad. Unfortunately, no other shark movies have managed to raise the bar the way that Jaws did, but based on this latest trailer, it looks as though The Meg may take a huge bite out of the competition.

A number of shark movies received negative responses simply due to how unbelievable they were. In order to stand out from Jaws, a number of these shark movies tried to make their sharks bigger than the previous sharks in movies. Unfortunately, the size of the shark in Jaws was already pushing the limits of unbelievability due to his massive size, so the even larger sized sharks in other movies just weren't believable on screen. However, the premise of The Meg actually has a clever solution to this, using a scientifically accurate size scale for the shark chosen in the movie that is larger than any shark we have seen on screen before. Here is the official synopsis for The Meg.

"A massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. With time running out, rescue diver Jonas Taylor must save the crew and the ocean itself from an unimaginable threat -- a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon."

The idea of using a Megalodon as the antagonist of the movie is a truly clever twist, geniusly combining the shark concept of Jaws with the dinosaur concept of Jurassic Park. This will surely end up being a unique monster movie, combining two different themes into one truly terrifying beast. Based on the success of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom last month, which managed to earn well over $1 billion at the box office, it's safe to say that The Meg should perform rather well.

The new look at The Meg revealed in the latest trailer is truly exciting, especially for anyone who enjoys monster movies. The action and the rather talent cast including Jason Statham, Ruby Rose, and Rainn Wilson are enough to get us incredibly excited for this movie to release. Action lovers will surely not want to wait until Blu-Ray for this movie, as it looks like it will be best seen on the big screen. You can watch the latest trailer from Warner Bros. Pictures below, and be sure to see The Meg for yourself when it hits theaters August 10th, 2018.
