Pay-Per-View will start offering performances from the Metropolitan Opera this January through In Demand. According to Variety, they will kick things off with a Hi-Def presentation of Gounod's Romeo et Juliette.

The Met's Peter Gelb stated, "This deal is a logical outgrowth of our arrangement to transmit eight of our operas this year to more than 600 movie theaters throughout the globe."

Next year, thirty million digital cable subscribers will be able to watch eight monthly operas. The taped performances will air thirty days after they are performed. The price will be $9.95 for each viewing.
