The trailer opens with Jennifer Lopez waking up in a hospital after giving birth to a baby and an FBI agent interacting with her. The agent reveals that Lopez is involved in some agreement with the FBI and that seven of their agents have supposedly been killed. Although Lopez escapes unharmed, the incident's masterminds, Adrian Lovell and Hector Alvarez, are still alive and searching for Lopez. Given her involvement in the raid with FBI agents, these criminals are likely hoping to cut off all the loose ends.

Lopez is advised by the agent, "You and I both know, the only way you protect this child is to disappear." If she does not do so, the enemy may locate both of them, and the daughter will be in danger. With a heavy heart, she decides to leave her daughter in the capable hands of her old friend, portrayed by Omari Hardwick. She requests that he raise her among good people and keep her safe. And if danger comes her way, Lopez is ready to act, even if it means eliminating the threat.

Unfortunately, Adrian and Hector haven't given up on finding Lopez, and they finally find out about her daughter and abduct her in the hopes of luring Lopez out of hiding. They eventually reach Lopez and explain that they want vengeance for what she did in the past and will not inform her daughter's whereabouts until she surrenders to them. Lopez prepares for the fight against the kidnappers now that the secret is out, and with Hardwick's aid, she receives a few leads on them.

As shown in the trailer, Lopez tortures someone while inquiring about her young daughter. Fortunately, it seems that she discovered where they were taking her daughter and was able to stop the kidnappers and rescue her. Even though she saved her kid, they are still in jeopardy, and their journey toward safety continues.

Vengeance vs. A Mother's Determination

The reunion of mother and daughter lends an emotional touch to the film, with statements like the daughter asking her mother, "Who are you?" implying Lopez has never contacted her in all these years. The following scenes depict car chases in which Lopez escapes from her pursuers. Soon after that, the mother and daughter duo arrives in the wilderness, where their odds of survival are higher than in the city.

Lopez, on the other hand, is determined to teach her daughter how to survive in a situation if anything bad happens to her. The trailer then shows us some heartfelt moments from both of them, some amusing remarks, and their bonding. But, in the end, happiness is short-lived, and the enemy has tracked them down and intends to kill them. Although Lopez flees with her daughter, she soon realizes that running away yields no results, so she changes tactics and starts hunting them instead.

She is seen sneaking into a dark room, where Adrian is seated on a chair, saying, "You're not getting away this time." Later, she faces Hector in the forest, where one fights for revenge, the other to rescue her kin. The trailer then concludes with Lopez saying, "I'm a killer, but I'm also a mother. And I'll die defending her," as well as plenty of high-octane action scenes in which Lopez is shown running away, killing invaders with a sniper rifle, and engaging in chase fight through sledge cars.

The Mother, directed by Niki Caro and starring Jennifer Lopez, will premiere on Netflix on May 12.
