Total Recall director Len Wiseman is finalizing a deal to direct The Mummy reboot for Universal Pictures. We first reported on this project back in April, when Prometheus writer Jon Spaihts signed on to provide the screenplay.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman are producing through their K/O Paper Products, along with Sean Daniel and James Jacks. Here's what Len Wiseman had to say about the project, revealing there is a much scarier take on the classic monster.

"When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head, the period tale, the old monster, but when Bob and Alex pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It's a darker twist on the material, a scarier version."

Len Wiseman previously worked with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman when he directed the pilot episode of their CBS series Hawaii Five-0.
