In a classic good news/bad news scenario, Disney has signed off on a sequel to The Muppets, although actor/writer Jason Segel will not be involved in writing the script.

Disney has inked deals with The Muppets director James Bobin and Nick Stoller to write the screenplay for the sequel. Jason Segel co-wrote The Muppets with Nick Stoller, but it is said that his commitments to other projects mean he won't be available to write the script. Along with his CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, Jason Segel will be busy promoting The Five-Year Engagement, due in theaters April 27, and This Is 40, opening December 21.

Even though Jason Segel won't be writing The Muppets sequel, insiders claim he is still open to starring in the follow-up, if the James Bobin/Nick Stoller script is to his liking.

While it may be quite some time before The Muppets sequel hits theaters, you can relive The Muppets on Blu-ray and DVD March 20.
